OpportunItaly at Fruit Logistica 2026

Italy was the leading exhibiting country at Europe’s most important fruit and vegetable industry event, demonstrating its key role in the sector

From 4 to 6 February 2026, Fruit Logistica 2026 took place in Berlin, Europe’s leading event for the fruit and vegetable sector. Italy further strengthened its international presence thanks to the strong participation of exhibitors. Out of 2,458 companies, 380 were Italian, making Italy the top country by number of exhibitors. This important milestone was celebrated by the institutions attending on an official visit.

Between excellence and the supply chain: Made in Italy on show

The Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry, Francesco Lollobrigida, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Edmondo Cirielli, and the President of the Italian Trade Agency, Matteo Zoppas, accompanied by Italy’s Ambassador to Germany, Fabrizio Bucci, and the Director of the ITA Office in Berlin, Ferdinando Fiore, met with leading representatives of Made in Italy excellence in the fruit and vegetable industry.

In Germany, Italy’s agri-food tradition was also showcased, alongside efforts to make the sector even more central globally. An institutional video produced by MASAF celebrated the recognition of Italian cuisine as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The Italian Trade Agency, through its Investment Attraction Desk at the Berlin Office, hosted an Info Desk to support the Italian companies attending the event and to promote investment opportunities in the logistics sector.

In the institutional area, the Northern Tyrrhenian Sea Port System Authority was also present and, together with Interporto “Amerigo Vespucci”, Terminal Darsena Toscana, CSC and Livorno Reefer–Gruppo CPL, took part in Fruit Logistica with the Livorno Cold Chain project—an operational centre of excellence offering European-level efficiency standards and KPIs.

Fruit and vegetables drive Italian agriculture

Italy holds a leading position in Europe thanks to its fruit and vegetable sector, the largest segment of Italian agriculture. The 258,000 companies operating across the country generate €18.9 billion, accounting for 28% of agricultural production (Source: ISMEA). Exports in the first 10 months of 2025 rose by 11.6% compared to the same period in 2024. Driving this result was a 16% increase in fruit exports over the same timeframe.

Italy’s trade relationship with Germany is strategic: fruit and vegetable exports to Germany account for 30% of the total share. In the first 10 months of 2025, turnover generated by sales in the Northern European country increased by 12% compared to the first 10 months of 2024, reaching €1.7 billion.

OpportunItaly to enhance Italian businesses in Germany and worldwide

Germany is a benchmark market for Italy’s fruit and vegetable sector—and not only that. Engaging with the German market is a strategic advantage for Made in Italy companies looking to grow internationally. OpportunItaly is the programme that supports Italian professionals throughout this process, as it did during Fruit Logistica 2026, where it promoted Italy’s logistics infrastructure network and facilitated B2B meetings between producers and all those seeking Italian excellence. At the dedicated stand, visitors were able to explore the programme and the strategic tools available to businesses.
